Messiah Lutheran Church

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA

This client’s design aesthetic was more towards smaller country churches or New England chapels and they wanted to avoid it evolving into an ostentatious cathedral. Following intense user/architect design charrettes, the church selected a very traditional cross plan with a balcony and a tower was placed at the entry to act as a focal point and circulation node through which all pedestrian traffic enters the Sanctuary. The overall outcome of the design was a charming church that blends beautifully with the surrounding coastal influences of Skidaway Island and Savannah.
