The unique architecture of Marriott’s Residence Inn, located in Savannah’s Historic District, is unlike any other hotel in the city. This hotel was designed to compliment and respect the surrounding architecture of the Central of Georgia Railroad Historic District.
 

The goal was to emulate the original neighborhood pattern of the larger buildings closer to Martin Luther King Boulevard, flanked by the smaller, railroad workers’ cottages that used to occupy the site but have since been demolished. Greenline Architecture achieved this goal by designing several structures; one to resemble a 19th century building that could have housed railroad offices, one that looked as though it could be an industrial building, and several small wood framed cottages. While the overall effect is not typical of the Marriott brand, it is very successful in historic Savannah. Greenline’s services included exterior design and navigating all local Historic District Board of Review work.
 

The project won a 2009 Historic Savannah Foundation “Thinking Outside the Box” Award for its unique contribution to the downtown’s architecture.
