Greenline Receives “Best of Best” Award

Touted as the “Best of Government” project by the International Interior Design Association, the new Southwest Branch of Savannah’s Live Oak Public Libraries system, designed by Greenline Architecture, was awarded a “Best of the Best” Award at its annual Georgia Chapter Awards Ceremony in February. The b.o.b. Forum Design Award is the highest honor that IIDA Georgia can bestow upon a design team, “in recognition of design excellence and promotion of creativity which strives continuously to push boundaries and exceed expectations.” Designed to Gold category standards for the US Green Building Council’s LEED program, the building is the first truly modern, sustainable structure in Chatham County’s civic inventory. The library’s interior aesthetic draws inspiration from the colors of nature, but it is also sustainable in its efficiency of operations, minimizing staff and energy expenditures.

Old meets new again in this Savannah jewel with a commanding view of the Northwestern corner of Forsyth Park. New construction included a 2 story structure over the kitchen with 2 bathrooms and a rear porch, modernization of the carriage house with a 3 car garage, a 2 story connector between the house and carriage house, and a second story on the existing side porch. The elaborate plaster mouldings throughout the Parlor Level were restored along with the original plaster arch and replicated marble mantels hand carved in Hungary.

Wanting their dream home to mimic a Savannah historic mansion located on East Victory Drive originally built in 1912, the new home’s exterior is virtually an exact duplicate of the original Classical Revival mansion. While the facade is almost identical, the interior floor plan is completely original but features appropriate architecural accents inspired by the original property. The home’s focal point is the circular center hallway and staircase that connect the first, second and attic floors with lots of natural daylight and intricate architectural detailing.

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA
This free-standing Greek Revival Townhouse, typical to Savannah was built in 1859 for William H. Bradley on Chatham Square. Two goals for the owners were to increase interior living space with a more open floor plan while preserving the historic character of the home. The original design was two and a half rooms deep with very limited open space. Greenline created a porch-like structure on the back of the house to expand the foot print to a three room deep home.

Presented to us by Paula Deen, owner and celebrity chef; this 1820’s historic landmark with an unalterable footprint, needed to seat 250 people in addition to banquet, bar and catering facilities. Plus, a centrally located kitchen had to efficiently serve two floors of hungry star-struck patrons. Needless to say, her famous fried chicken and hoe cakes aren’t the only things getting recognition around here. Proud recipient of the 2002 Historic Savannah Foundation’s Preservation Award and the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation’s 2005 Excellence in Restoration.
