The renovation of this 3,990 square foot cottage has revitalized the property to accommodate the modern family and its guests while reestablishing its deserved position of prominence on “The Bluff.” Greenline advised the owners to strip away inappropriate finishes and take the cottage back to its roots as a river house, featuring exposed structures, antiqued mirror doors, butt board walls, salvaged chestnut and reclaimed tongue and groove wood. The site includes the original cottage and carriage house, along with a smoke/cook house and a boat/guest house added during the renovation. The new buildings are designed to connect comfortably through scale and material.

This 7,000 square foot residence was inspired by some of the low country’s early Georgian plantation homes, using elements such as Savannah grey brick, copper roofing, high windows and ceilings, elaborate mouldings and heart pine flooring. The client’s second home, overlooking the Okatie River, hosts frequent visits by family and friends. Durability, maintainability and taking advantage of evening breezes were priorities in this seasonally-used home. It has become a favorite place of relaxation and fellowship after good-natured competition on the golf or tennis courts.

When Springhill Suites decided to locate in the historic district of Savannah their architect called on Greenline Architecture to assist with the exterior design to meet the soon to be imposed, revised historic district ordinance. We not only met the ordinance but provided a design that allowed an additional story and created a contemporary solution that suites the historic environment without seeming out of place on beautiful Oglethorpe Avenue. The design incorporates brick, cast stone and glass on the exterior, with a modulated façade to help to break-up the 280’ length of the building.

Designed to be sited in the Central of Georgia railroad complex, the hotel had to suit the historic context of the former railroad workers village that used to occupy the site. Greenline Architecture achieved this goal by designing several buildings; one to resemble a 19th century building that could have housed railroad offices, one that look as though it could be an industrial building and several small wood framed cottages. The overall effect is not typical of the Marriott brand, but is very successful in historic Savannah. The project received an Historic Savannah Foundation award for “thinking outside of the box”.

Tucked behind two large live oaks along White Bluff Drive, is our favorite local bakery, Two Smart Cookies. Designing this farmhouse inspired bakery was as fun as the treats it was built to make. The site layout was centered on the preservation of two historic oak trees. Guests are greeted under a playful tower painted bright green with the Two Smart Cookies logo. Inside, an open plan allows guests to view the production of cookies and take in the smell of the sugary sweets. The 7,800 s.f. building also houses two tenant spaces and a pre-order customer pick up area, which are tucked behind the main building and feature large sliding barn doors.

We are very proud to say that we are almost finished with construction the first phase of the front of Campus project at ABAC . Historic Tift Hall is nearing completion and will be the first portion of the project to be finished and occupied. The building will house the ABAC President’s office, visitor’s reception, a history center, and two vice president’s offices. The design team was on site last week helping with the installation of furniture and art work. It’s looking very good!
